These photos are inspired by the fogginess of an idea or dreams. The feeling of knowing, but not in entirety, and the hopelessness of not being capable of knowing. The sensation of experiencing something mysterious and bizarre, something that is hard to define. I attempted to create this feeling of ambiguity by covering the faces of all the subjects with triangles. The triangle is a symbol for many different, and sometimes contradicting, things. For example, it can mean ‘man’, or it can mean ‘woman’. The fact that the triangle can be understood in so many ways makes it ultimately unexplained. There is no set meaning of a triangle as a symbol, and therefore raises questions. To cover the faces of people with a triangle is to mystify the person or the intent of the narrative. Their emotions become unreadable and confusing. The viewer is then given the freedom to define the subject as they choose, they may also choose to relate to the subject or not. By giving the viewer ultimate power of the meaning behind the image based on their individual interpretation, I hope to create an unsolvable problem.
